Dating back to 1916, the Bankhead Highway was one of the country's earliest transcontinental highways. The road stretched from Washington D.C. all the way to San Diego, California. Approximately 850 of those miles are right here in Texas. And if we zero in a little closer to the city of Rowlett, we can see a small brewery embracing this little known history. Bankhead Brewing Co. not only takes on the name of the historical highway but has also established itself on the highway.
A freshly opened business, this place was bustling this Friday evening. This brewpub offered woodfire pizzas along with the selection of house craft beer. The pints I had this evening were pretty solid. The aesthetic of the place pays homage to the historic highway from the 1940's Ford coupe out front to the old prohabition photos of the wall and the railroad beam light fixtures.
Solid craft beers and brick oven pizza draws the crowd. Enjoyed my pints and enjoyed learning the history of Bankhead Highway. Gonna have to follow it to see what else is down the road. I hope it's more beer!
